Working with dates and epochs in Data Recipes | Tableau CRM | Einstein Analytics

Now that Data Prep and Recipes are being used more, I started to see a few questions online regarding handling epochs in formulas created in Recipes and also on how to operate with date transformations and filters.

Some things changed from what it used to be in Dataflows but it’s completely possible to use and transform epochs in Recipes. Also, a lot of things have been simplified in the new UI. Here we go…

Let’s first address the new way to use epochs in a Recipe because you won’t be able to directly use the “sec_epoch” measures anymore. It will error out like this:

We will need to use the new “extract” function for date fields:

Here you can select to extract any date component. For this exercise we will select Second Epoch:
